OUR ANNUAL REVIEW 2017 – Internationalisation and loads of new product features

Another exciting year for SPRYLAB in our 10-year history is drawing to a close. We are proud of the fact that in 2017 we were able to make a decisive contribution to the expansion of our international presence and to make our core product Purple DS® even more user-friendly with more innovative features. This was only possible thanks to the close cooperation with our customers and partners as a joint team!

New customers, partners and international presence

In addition to our new partnerships with the companies Graphit from the Netherlands, xEdge from Singapore and A&F from Switzerland, above all the very close cooperation and partnership with WoodWing has led to the further expansion of our global presence and the creation of new, joint strategic areas of development. We are also very pleased about new and more intensified business relations with for example the Bauer Media Group, NewsLifeMedia Australia, Deutsche Bahn and Ringier in Switzerland.

As part of a global process optimization strategy, Bauer Media decided in April to switch its entire publication portfolio from more than 150 titles to Purple DS®. Some of the popular titles include Grazia UK, Empire UK & USA, Car, Bike, Practical Photography, Maxi and Women’s Weekly. NewsLifeMedia, part of Australia’s largest media company News Corp., has also been relying on SPRYLAB since August. Well-known premium magazines such as Vogue, Vogue Living and GQ are now published as apps using Purple DS®.

We were also able to further expand our customer relationships with Deutsche Bahn. Additional Purple DS® apps will be used in particular for the digitization of internal communication in the areas of training, sales and employee communication. We will inform you about further details of our cooperation with Ringier in Switzerland at the beginning of the new year.

New product features and expansion of IT Services

In 2017, we have continuously expanded our core product with many smaller as well as more complex features and we have expanded our services. Particularly noteworthy here is the full dynamisation of the app menu. This means that a large number of changes to the app can be made without having to re-submit the app in the app stores. The flexibility of our storefronts (newsstand and newsfeed) is also a highlight to be mentioned. It makes it easy for our customers to integrate their own HTML storefront with individual design and respective UI/UX.
In addition, we have further strengthened Purple DS® with interfaces to third party service providers, including the integration of external content management systems such as WoodWing and Drupal Thunder, the integration of the HTML editor Canvasflow for content creation, and the integration of various analysis and monetization tools such as Adobe Analytics or Amazon Pinpoint.
Many thanks to our numerous customers for their continuous input – without the feedback this would not have been possible!

We are particularly pleased that we were able to help mysimpleshow of the company Simpleshow to successfully launch a SaaS solution on the market. Together, we have managed three successful releases in 2017.
Furthermore, we also built a new digital communication channel for Axel Springer in December, which will enable the editorial staff of BILD magazine to put their internal slack chat live at major events. The innovative feature is based on “Serverless Computing” and is considered the latest state of the art in journalism.

“Particularly in the publishing market, we have successfully expanded our services in the area of individual web and mobile applications. In addition, the product integration of major third-party suppliers was a great highlight and an important milestone we were able to achieve this year,” said Managing Director Benjamin Kolb, commenting on the progress in terms of service and product development.

Webinars and outlook 2018

We are also pleased that our popular webinars on the hottest topics around Purple DS® and digital publishing, such as article-based publishing, have been very well received and will continue to be held in the coming year.

Managing Director Stephan Heck gave a small outlook on what you can expect in the near future: “Unique apps are already being created and marketed around the world with Purple DS®. But the future of publishing has also been a matter of intense concern to us: True multi-channel publishing with a smart and efficient solution is our claim. In 2018, we present the result – you can be very excited!”
