Integrating new IT solutions and digital applications into hospital operations and achieving the intended benefits for patients and staff is not as straightforward as many providers promise in the context of the German Hospital Future Act (KHZG). Hospital processes are often rigid, historically grown and subject to legal regulation.
Intervening in these workflows, improving them and keeping the needs of both hospital staff and patients in view is challenging. One-size-fits-all industry software is often not enough and can even cause more problems than it solves. When several software solutions are bought in particular, this quickly leads to an IT architecture that is barely possible to oversee.
