IVARIO is Europe’s leading online provider for health analyses in residential and workspaces and, as part of the GBA Group, makes scientific laboratory expertise accessible to everyone. Together with SPRYLAB as a technology partner, IVARIO developed a new Analysis Report Center within three months: a mobile-optimized web platform that covers the entire process from sample activation to the display of analysis results. The central challenge was to present complex laboratory analyses with dozens of parameters in an understandable way for laypeople while providing full transparency about the process status. The application demonstrates how scientific data can become a competitive advantage through a mobile-first approach and seamless system integration.

The Challenges: Lack of Mobile Optimization and Intransparent Processes

IVARIO faced a fundamental realignment of its digital infrastructure. “Our old analysis report center was not optimized for mobile and did not meet our customers’ expectations in terms of UI/UX,” explains Tim Fabian Besser, Managing Director of IVARIO. Given the growing mobile usage, this was a critical weakness that urgently needed to be addressed. The future lies in the mobile support of our entire analysis process, but the old system could not deliver this.

The core challenge lay in the complexity of the data: laboratory analyses with dozens of parameters, various threshold values, and international guidelines had to be prepared in such a way that both private customers and professional users could understand the results at a glance. The scientific data had to be visualized without losing precision. At the same time, the system should support various international guidelines and automatically adapt the display to the respective region. 

Another critical problem was the lack of process transparency. “The customer orders from us, the package arrives, then they activate the sample. From the moment they send it off, they need to know exactly where they are in the process”, describes Besser the initial situation. Several days pass from activation to the finished analysis report. During this time, customers did not know whether their sample had already arrived at the laboratory, when to expect results, or whether there were delays. This uncertainty led to increased support inquiries and potentially dissatisfied customers.

The project required various system integrations: The FTP interface to the laboratory system for transmitting sample receipt and sample results. Additionally, the DHL API was connected for automated creation of shipping labels. The single sign-on implementation with the new Shopify shop via Keycloak was intended to enable seamless authentication. For the support team, an intuitive admin interface was also required that allows quick intervention in ongoing processes, such as correcting erroneous data or manually creating shipping labels.

 

IVARIO deliberately chose custom development, as industry solutions could not cover either the specific requirements for data visualization or the complex integration needs. The application also had to be flexible for future extensions such as cross-selling functions, A/B tests, or AI-powered evaluations.

The Solution: Mobile First and End-to-End Transparency

SPRYLAB relied on a modern technology architecture: Next.js in the frontend, Nest.js in the backend, and Strapi as the CMS. The consistent use of TypeScript also ensured consistent data structures and efficient development processes. The project was implemented in agile sprints, enabling transparency and flexible adjustments.

The new user interface was essential for the future vision of complete digital support. “The presentation we have now works extremely well, especially on mobile devices,” says Besser. A central feature is the end-to-end status transparency: The system maps every step, from sample activation through shipping and laboratory receipt to the finished analysis report. “An important key function is that the customer always knows where they currently are in the process. That’s why we introduced these statuses: sample activated, sample shipped, sample received at laboratory, analysis report available,” emphasizes Besser. These updates are not only displayed in the portal but also actively communicated via email.

The visualization of analysis results was fundamentally improved. Customers can see at a glance which parameters were tested and how their values compare to threshold values. Another important feature is the preventive threshold alerts: “We now have more options in presenting test results. For example, we can show: Your threshold was not exceeded, but you are very close. Then it makes sense to check the value again in the foreseeable future,” explains Besser. This information helps customers react early before problems become acute.

 

The process was optimized throughout: Customers activate their sample by entering a code or scanning a QR code, the system automatically generates DHL shipping labels, and an intelligent email sequence informs about every status change. For the support staff, SPRYLAB developed an admin interface with quick access to customer data and direct intervention in ongoing processes.

The Results: Improved Customer Experience and Efficient Processes

The Analysis Report Center now forms the digital foundation for IVARIO’s customer service. The mobile-first optimization was the most important improvement. Customers can comfortably follow the entire process on their smartphone, from activation to retrieving the results.

The status transparency through automatic email notifications gives customers security during the waiting period. “We have newly introduced proactively informing customers about delays in the laboratory”, explains Besser. The extended threshold information with preventive alerts enables early action before problems become acute. Scientific data is made accessible through thoughtful visualization with a traffic light system.

The integrations work smoothly: From automatic shipping label generation via DHL to seamless authentication with the shop system, all systems work hand in hand. The support team works more efficiently through the intuitive admin interface. The flexible system architecture now creates the foundation for further growth.
